Massage Treatment Options
Traditional (Swedish) Massage
Registered Massage Therapists practice therapeutic Swedish massage, which is based on Western concepts of anatomy and physiology and follows principles similar to Sports Medicine practices. Deep tissue Swedish treatment combines effleurage, kneading, stretching, pressure, and percussion of the muscles with active and passive movement of the joints.
Cupping & Massage Therapy
Cupping Therapy uses glass or silicon cups and vacuum pressure to apply varying levels of suction to specific points on the body. When performed by an RMT as part of a massage session, Cupping Therapy is often referred to as Tissue Distraction Release, using shear force (instead of compression) to release trigger points.
Scar Tissue Release
McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR®) is a force-free treatment that uses gentle, fingertip pressure to help free restrictions and improve the mobility of the tissue, and the look and feel of the scar and the surrounding area. Myofascial release and fascial stretching techniques may be combined with Swedish massage and dynamic soft tissue therapy to improve scar tissue health, structural formation, and functional range of motion. Appropriate for healed post-surgical and injury scars.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a natural therapeutic technique that applies manual pressure on reflex points in the body, based on their map within the body to other areas and tissues, including the glands and organs. Through the application of pressure on these reflexes, the body's own healing and restoration is facilitated. When performed by a skilled RMT, reflexology is eligible for reimbursement on insurance plans with massage therapy coverage.
TMJ and Headache Therapy
Massage Therapy provides gentle treatment of the facial muscles involved in chewing, clenching, and grinding and can help to relieve pain and mobility dysfunction involving the Temperomandibular Joint (TMJ). Treatment involves detailed assessment of jaw function by a Senior RMT with specialized training in craniofacial anatomy and intra-oral anatomy and massage techniques. Individual muscles inside the mouth are specifically palpated and treated (with gloved hands) in addition to general Swedish massage to the head, neck and shoulders to relieve associated tension.
Prenatal Massage Therapy
Swedish massage, adapted for your comfort and safety during pregnancy. Massage Therapy offers relief from back pain, sciatica, headaches, and swelling often associated with pregnancy. Specialized pregnancy pillows allow most clients to lay face down during their session, and full body treatment can also be offered in sidelying position.
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST)
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a neurofunctional approach to recovery that uses assisted stretching and manual therapy targeted to the joints and connective tissues of the body, not just the muscles. Its proven ability to enhance nervous system response, increase strength, and improve mobility and balance make it particularly useful for chronic pain conditions, athletic performance enhancement, and injury rehabilitation. Direct billing is available to all major plans with RMT coverage.
